A shortage of Veterinarians has become a nationwide crisis. Like other animal rescue agencies across the country, HSW has struggled to find timely and affordable veterinary care for their shelter animals. HSW has partnered with veterinarians locally and valley-wide, however, the demand for pet care has become so great that it can take up to 2 and 3 months to secure a surgical appointment for the shelter animals. Unfortunately, shelter pets must wait at the shelter or in a foster home until they are spayed and neutered to be adopted by their forever family. "We are working closely with the Medical Supply Territory Manager to find the most cost effective options for our surgical equipment. Some equipment may be gently used by other clinics, for instance, if they have upgraded their equipment and the used equipment is no longer needed. With the help of the Territory Manager, we were able to purchase an autoclave - originally quoted for $4,800 - for only $1200! Once the surgical suite is operational, a Veterinarian will be able to visit the shelter and spay and neuter the animals on-site, reducing their length of stay at the shelter and enable HSW to serve more animals." says Tammy Hankins, President & CEO
